News 8 Austin | 24 Hour Local News | HEADLINES | Palmer transformation could begin soon: "The first steps transforming Palmer Auditorium into the Long Center for the Performing Arts could begin this month.Executive Director Cliff Reed said the Long Center will begin advertising for contractors to remove asbestos from the building.
During that process, management will start planning for the second phase, renovating Palmer into a multi-use entertainment facility.
Reed says nearly $59 million, or about 75 percent of the money, has been raised to complete the Long Center Project and provide an endowment for operating expenses."
